Assistive Listening Devices

These are available for use during open public meetings and library programs only.

In the case of library programs, please contact the library at least two business days prior to the event to reserve a device.

Copying & Printing

There is a public copier located near the Circulation Desk. This is a black and white laser copier. B&W laser copies are 10 cents per page. The copier is capable of making enlargements and reductions.

Color laser printing is available from the public Internet stations. Color laser printing is 25 cents per page, and multiple copying is limited.

If you need a color copy of a document or picture, you must use the library's scanner and print the scanned file to the color laser printer for the usual scanning and printing fees.

FAX Services

FAX service to and from the library is available.

Outgoing faxes are $1.00 per page for 1 to 20 pages; maximum charge of $10.00. For over 20 pages the charge is $10 plus $1.00 for each page over 20.

Incoming faxes are $1.00 per page.

Internet

There are eight public computer Internet stations located in the Reference area. Microsoft Office Suite 2007 is installed. You must sign up at the Circulation Desk to use these computers.

In addition, there are two computer Internet stations located in the YA Room, as well as three computer Internet stations located upstairs in the Children's Department. Microsoft Office Suite 2007 is installed on all. Use of these stations is limited, and you must sign up to use these computers.

Please note:

Our Internet access is filtered per CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) requirements. Patrons who need to remove blocking may ask for assistance at the Circulation or reference Desks.

Wireless Internet

Public wireless service is available. Patrons can now easily connect their personal computers to our network in most areas of the library.

Public Meeting Rooms

The Jesse M. Smith Library makes its meeting rooms available, free of charge, for use by non-profit organizations for non-commercial, cultural, educational and civic purposes. Room availability is contingent on there being no conflict with Library programs or meetings and Town programs and meetings, which have first priority at all times.

Reference Desk

Our Reference Specialist and/or our Reference Assistants are available during regular library hours to assist patrons with reference questions and research projects.

For Reference help from home, or when our Reference Department is closed, please use the resources at ASKRI.ORG.

Scanning

There is a color scanner located at the Reference Desk. It has OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capability. Scanning is 25 cents per page. The scanned documents or images can be printed to the color laser printer for 25 cents per page, or you can save them to your own flash drive, or email them to yourself using the scanner's email utility.

Study Rooms

There are three quiet study rooms available. Individuals or groups may sign up at the Circulation Desk to use them. Wireless Internet is available in these rooms.

Typewriter

There is a portable electric typewriter available for use. Please ask at the Reference Desk.

Word Processing

All the public computers are running Microsoft Office Professional applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and Access.

Need a Notary?

Two members of the Library's staff are now Notary Publics so there is often a Notary on duty evenings and Saturdays– but please call ahead to be sure.

There is no charge for this service.
